ChatGPT : AI’s Interacting Language Model, Use Cases for Higher Education

412

OpenAI Inc. a San Francisco-based artificial intelligence company that developed the famous AI tool DALLE, a deep-learning model that generates images from text instructions called prompts, has recently introduced a long-form question-answering AI called ChatGPT that answers complex questions conversationally.

It’s a game-changing technology because it’s been trained to understand what humans would say if they were asked a question. The majority of users are astounded by ChatGPT’s ability to respond in the most human-like manner. It will eventually disrupt the entire conversion behaviour of AI interacting with humans.

How does it function?

It works on a large language model (LLM). It is a version of the GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) model, which uses a huge amount of text data to learn how to make text that sounds like it was written by a person. It can be used for a wide range of natural language processing tasks, such as writing new text, translating text from one language to another, answering questions, and summarizing text. By training the model on a smaller dataset that is relevant to the task, it can be fine-tuned to do specific tasks.

According to Stanford University: “GPT-3 has 175 billion parameters and was trained on 570 gigabytes of text. For comparison, its predecessor, GPT-2, was over 100 times smaller at 1.5 billion parameters”.

LLMs anticipate the next word in a string of words in a phrase, as well as the following sentences – similar to autocomplete, but on a much larger scale.

How is it different from other AI based chatbot?

Well, the human-like response is the unique proposition for the ChatGPT. It will try to give you the best possible response in a very timely manner. It also accepts mistakes if you give any incorrect information and tries to give other possible responses for the questions asked.

We tried to understand the LLM behind the ChatGPT by chasing some of the prompt questions and responses were amazing.

Firstly, we asked the question based on students usually ask and search on google.

What are the most demanding courses?

In response, we got the answer: It is difficult to say which courses are the most demanding in India as it can vary depending on the field of study, the level of education, and the specific institution. However, traditionally, courses in the fields of engineering, medicine, and law are considered to be among the most demanding and competitive in India. Additionally, MBA and other business management courses are also considered to be quite competitive and challenging.

I do not have technical background, can I learn python or SQL?

Yes, you can learn Python or SQL even if you do not have a technical background. Both Python and SQL are relatively easy to learn, and there are many resources available to help you get started.

Python is a general-purpose programming language that can be used for a wide range of tasks, such as web development, data analysis, artificial intelligence, and more. It is known for its simple and intuitive syntax, which makes it easy to learn for beginners.

SQL is a programming language used for managing and querying relational databases. It is used for creating, modifying and querying databases, it is widely used in data analytics and data science.

There are many online tutorials, courses, and resources available for learning Python or SQL, including free and paid options. Some popular resources for learning Python include Codecademy, Coursera, and edX. For SQL, you can try websites like Codeacademy, Khan Academy and w3schools.

Analysis : ChatGPT and Probability

The ChatGPT is pre-loaded with the large language model, in which the likelihood of forming the next word is determined by the nature of the sentence and probability of appearing next logical word for forming the correct response. For example, if I say, “I wish to learn coding and I would start with…”

The chances are that I would start with HTML, Java, or Python. The chances that I will choose one of these three coding languages at first are based on my knowledge of the types of programming languages. It is easy for us to come up with the choices of the programming languages we wish to learn, but the machine fails to select the right one until we select one of them.

The ChatGPT or any other OpenAI gives you the selective response based on the calculative probability of words, numbers of searches and responses that appear earlier.

Well, the ChatGPT works in language mode, and it is committed to improving its command of the English language, but it is not a conscious goal to achieve. It may fail to reach those endeavors. We learn languages based on our behavioural patterns. If someone wants to learn my native language and asks me for some tips to learn it quickly, I would struggle to give any useful tips. The reason is obvious: I got fed up with the words spoken in my surroundings until I learned them myself. The majority of the LLM works in the same way. They have mastered the English language, and it helps individuals improve their English. There are many AI tools that can correct errors and suggest any new words or sentences that align with standard English.‍

Use Cases of Open AI like ChatGPT and Limitations

OpenAI, like ChatGPT, works on a large scale, making it useful for all purposes. The business can use AI for customer service, chatbots, productivity, content creation, due diligence, standard drafting, and many more such use cases. It provides outstanding benefits for the business.

For example, any company can create an app that detects and analyses social media comments about universities, which can be useful for learning about a student’s perception of a specific university and assisting the university in designing and implementing new brand promotion strategies.

Nonetheless, despite the inclusion of advanced technology, OpenAI fails to keep up with the most recent information. A tool like this might be able to find private management schools in India, but it might not be able to find a new management college that just opened.

Though ChatGPT is the most advanced form of conversation modeling, it has certain limitations, which eventually will be crossed over by the developers. We hope that you find this article interesting and meaningful. Please share your thoughts on the new viral ChatGPT, whether it benefits academia or is just another conversational AI.
