Recently, the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, is organizing a ‘People’s Choice Campaign’ from November 3 onward to promote One District, One Product (ODOP), Geographical Indication (GI), and other local products.

The One District, One Product (ODOP) initiative aims to stimulate economic development at the district level by placing a strong emphasis on the handicraft sector and the skilled artisans within those districts. This campaign is built upon a foundation of effective messaging, outreach, and focused economic endeavors, all designed to kickstart a nationwide movement. The Indian government is taking proactive measures to promote locally made, ODOP, and Geographical Indication (GI) products, recognizing their rich heritage, exceptional quality, and their vital role in the nation’s overall growth. All HEI’s are requested to mobilize resources across the country and encourage active participation in this important campaign.

This includes:

  • Organize blog writing competitions at colleges about local products.
  • Educational video screening in colleges and institutions on local and ODOP products.
  • Shadow an artisan or weaver.

The higher education institutions are requested to organise the activities mentioned above, encourage maximum participation in the various competitions, and make this campaign successful. In addition, the details of the activities conducted may also be uploaded along with photos and videos on the University Activity Monitoring Portal (UAMP)
