List Of Indian States Reopening Schools In 2021

As per the recent government decision, all the schools in India were strictly instructed to remain closed in 2020 following the covid-19 pandemic hit. But at present, various State governments have currently decided to switch back to the traditional physical classes. The Standing Committee On Education, Women, And Children said in the very first week of August in the Parliament that the closure of schools due to the ongoing pandemic has led to issues like child labour, child marriages, and child abuse which cannot be ignored. The social fabric of the families has been affected in a negative manner thus leading to the involvement of children in various negative issues.

List of states that have decided to reopen the schools

Uttar Pradesh (UP) schools

The government has decided to reopen the classes for 9 to 12 from the 16th of August following a fall in the number of covid-19 cases in the state. Anita Verma, the incharge of Lucknow City Montessori School said to a news reporting agency that their session has started but because of the lockdown scenario, the schools were again declared as closed. However, since August 16th, the school has been open and all the covid-19 protocols have been followed.

Delhi schools

The Delhi schools partially remained open for classes 10 to 12 from August 9th. Delhi government has currently issued guidelines that need to be followed by the parents, students, and staff members of the school. Written consent has been taken from the parents for not sharing stationeries and books; proper sanitization of school premises, thermal screening are some of the SOPs. The DDMA or the Delhi Disaster Management Authority said that the school will remain open for only practical and admission-related activities of the students. Also, there will be constant health checkups inside the school campuses.

Maharashtra schools

The Maharashtra government has decided to reopen schools for class 8th to 12th students in urban areas and for class 5 to 8 students in rural areas from August 17. As per reports, the parents from various districts of Maharashtra has been consistently demanding the schools to reopen especially for the lower classes.

Tamil Nadu Schools

Tamil Nadu government announced schools with 50% capacity for classes 9 to 12 from September 1. Also, apart from the schools, the college will also start be functioning from September 1. The government has also allowed the reopening of the theatres with 50 person capacity from August 23rd. Other than that, all the IT-related organisations are allowed to function with 100% workforce as per recent reports. 

Punjab schools

The schools in Punjab reopen from August 2nd, right from the pre-primary levels. As per the recent reports, the government has already allowed the classes to reopen for 10th and 12th standard students from the 26th of July. The Education Minister Of The State, Mr Vijay Inder Singla has reportedly said that the government has allowed the schools to reopen from August 2nd in the wake of falling covid-19 cases.

Karnataka schools

The Karnataka schools have been declared to reopen from the 23rd of August, i.e, today. As per the statement issued by the government, the schools are expected to remain open only for classes 9 to 12 for some selected districts.

Rajasthan schools

The Government of Rajasthan has allowed the reopening of schools from class 9th to 12th with 50% capacity on the 1st of September. Both teaching and non-teaching staff are now mandatorily required to have taken the first dose of the covid-19 vaccine. For classes 1 to 8, the government has decided to keep the classes functioning online.
