No Plans to Revise Reservation Norms Under NEP 2020: Union Education Minister

Responding to a written question in the Lok Sabha about whether the government plans to revise the existing reservation norms under the NEP 2020, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal has reportedly said that the government does not plan to revise the existing reservation norms under the New Education Policy 2020.

The NEP, which was approved by the Union Cabinet on 29th July 2020, replaces the National Policy on Education of 1986, with an aim at universalisation of education from pre-school to secondary level with 100 per cent Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in school education by 2030 and to raise GER in higher education to 50 per cent by 2025.

The NEP also seeks to introduce transformational reforms in school and higher education systems to make India a global knowledge superpower.
